Last weekend I headed out to Kofa in AZ and had a chance to use a tracker for the first time... while I’m super happy with this image, I definitely have my reservations about using a tracker too... I could see myself using one, but a lot of my trips involve a lot of hiking to get in the places where I shoot so I’m not sure I would want to carry the tracker with. Also, right now, the time involved in setting it up is very consuming and if you don’t give yourself a big enough window you could miss your shot. I’m sure that time would get better as I got used to it though. Who out there religiously uses a tracker? Sunset over the Great Sand Dunes was absolutely epic... crazy to think these are at over 8k ft... #TBT to the #bioluminescence in Malibu last sept.. I think I might head out there again in May... hope to see some of you out there!! —— Repost @tracyleephotos ・・・ What a treat last night was! I headed into LA for work this weekend so I hit up a couple Instagram friends to go shoot in Malibu... It was sometime yesterday afternoon that people were chattering about Bio-luminescence in the water from the night before and I was shown @themalibuartist's most recent image by @thekevingreene... I hoped that it would stick around for one more night and met up with @misledreject, Kevin, @alex.sphoto & @nathanaugustreed before heading down to the beach and then meeting up with @themalibuartist @themalibuartistwife and a few others who's IG names I can't recall and who I also couldn't see in the dark.. it was like a last minute instameet lol... --- I ended up setting up this comp (which was lit by a nearby spotlight down the beach) when I was shooting on my own; everyone was scattered up and down the beach- probably a good 20-30 photographers and most knew each other... --- It wasn't super obvious; You couldn't see the luminescence unless the waves crashed and Carlos said it was nowhere near as bright as the previous night.. --- As I finished up the comp, a guy walked up and said, Tracy? And it was none other than @stevenjmagner whom I have talked about photography so many times over the last 8 months and is an active part of @milkywaychasers.. he took me down to meet @cecphotos who he was there with and I spent the rest of the evening side by side cracking jokes (they tried to convince me that climbing out on this rock in the water was a good selfie idea) and discussing photography; and cheering every time a wave crashed an lit up really big. What a fun and expected evening last night; I love social media and all the friends and connections I have made! The ever elusive. I feel like I can gauge the improvement in my photography skills based on the photos that I have taken here. This is my third time making the trek out to Joshua tree to shoot here at night and I feel it’s by far my best set of photos from this location.. My original plans got a little messed up so to save the evening, I happened to be talking to my buddy @cecphotos and on a whim we decided to meet here... I spent the afternoon in the area killing time, took a sunset hike out to the arch to confirm alignment and explore the area, and then slept in the car until midnight when Chris arrived... we set up some timelapses which we let run a couple hours before we took our other shots like this one.. I used a lumecube.com/160.html (use code TRACYLEE for free US shipping) at 1% to light the inside of the arch. Right before I left for Peru, I was determined to fill my days and nights with as much stuff, work, and fun as I could. I had to work in Arizona one particular week so while I was out there I made my way to Lost Dutchman State Park to shoot the stars. I’ve always love the photos I’ve seen come out of here and was happy to be able to shoot my own. The light pollution surrounding the area including the lights from the bathrooms was enough to light up this entire mountain. After we hit the highest point on the Inca Trail, we descended into this valley filled with clouds and the view was absolutely incredible... I made a small group of us stop at this overlook to grab photos here.. I can’t get over that this was only a week ago; I’ve already been on 3-4 adventures since then!! Lol... I thought that Peru would satisfy this thirst but it made it so much worse.. Just sitting here and waiting for the Milky Way to rise... got to this hidden arch and I was actually surprised at how many footprints there are... 2 years ago when I originally hunter it down, I saw no footprints whatsoever... it was bound to happen, I suppose!
