What are your regrets for…

What are your regrets for this milkyway season? Mine is not getting out more to shoot because of the pandemic or getting any editing done! #FBF i haven’t shot nearly as much this season- hoping to next week! Here’s a shot from June 2017 for #flashbackfriday! —— Since most of June was spent on a shooting range, instead of shooting photos, this session I have been a little desperate to get some good shots... On my way home from LA Wednesday afternoon, I decided to find a good spot to shoot the Milky Way and wait out her appearance a few hours.. I drove around on dirt roads just last Barstow and then decided I would like to be closer to Vegas so I kept going more towards Baker.. I had this house pinned on my maps for over a year now but had never gotten close enough to explore it.. Well that day was the day and with my gun close at hand, I spent the sunset exploring the house and the surrounding ones as well.. The house has a dark basement below it which was part of the reason for my carrying my weapon. That and being a female in the middle of the desert alone... --- I shot a couple different compositions before calling it a night at 11:00pm.. I used 2 Lumecubes (use code TRACYLEE10 for 10% off and free US shipping); one to light inside and 1 to light outside.. I ALWAYS try to bounce the light if I can and I did that with both lights in this instance.. pretty stoked with how this one came out! --- ISO 6400 F2.8 10seconds 10 images stacked in SLS for NR @tokinausa 11-20 2.8 @slikusa 634-CFL @canonusa 70d --- #tracylee #tracyleephotos #tracyleephotography #slikusa #canonusa #tokinausa #canonbringit #teamcanon #teamtokina #teamslik #shootslik #sliktripods #mycanonstory #longexposure_shots #nightimages #nightshooterz #nightshooters #nightpics #milkywaygalaxy #astrophotography #astrophoto #astro_photography_ #astro_photography #LumeOneUp #california #capture4cubes #litbylume

One of my fave images…

One of my fave images from end of 2017 season! #FBF #FlashbackFriday —- Last weekend I hosted an impromptu end of season @MilkyWayChasers meet up at Trona Pinnacles with an awesome turnout; Thank you again everyone!! Since I was driving all the way to California for it, I took off a day early so that i could hit some spots in the Eastern Sierras to shoot Milky Way and Fall color before heading down to meet with the group. I had been wanting to shoot at this location since last year after @Prevailz had mentioned it to me. I had even been here a few months back with @TommyMacPhoto but we had a schedule of other spots to be at and didn't have time to come back to shoot at night.. --- As we were driving up the 395, the skies were super cloudy but my trusty weather website, noaa.gov promised that the skies would clear up in time. I didn't feel a sense of urgency to make it here by sunset because it was so overcast I thought for sure it was going to be a crappy sunset.. Boy, was I wrong!!! Not only was it one of the best sunsets ever, the skies cleared up JUST in time for me to get this shot of the alignment. --- What is crazy is that I thought i had messed up this shot and was going to have to composite a later Milky Way in, or just deal with a shot that didn't have the MW in alignment... Going back through my images, I had done a vertical pano at the exact perfect time. The sky, the upper part of the pano, was taken 15 minutes after the foreground was taken. --- I don't usually shoot night sky with my @canonusa 24-70 but I wanted a bigger MW so my foreground was taken at 35mm. I was kicking myself as I realized I would get trailing in my MW at the settings I wanted, so for the sky I switched to 27mm. I would have rather kept them the same focal length but I had already messed up and couldn't go back to get the incredible foreground color this one has. --- Sky 8 Images stacked in SLS for NR ISO 6400 F2.8 15 seconds @CanonUsa 24-70 @ 27mm @SlikUsa 634-CF @CanonUsa 6dmk1 Processed in LR & PS - Foreground 15 Images stacked in PS for NR ISO 6400 F2.8 3.2 seconds @CanonUsa 24-70 @ 35mm Processed in LR & PS -- #TracyLee #TracyLeePhotos Tracy Lee #milkyway #milkywaychasers

I love this shot- wondering…

I love this shot- wondering if I should try a re-edit; thoughts?? Who’s been spending Q-time going through old photos? #TBT #ThrowbackThursday —— Repost @tracyleephotos ・・・ This is the classic Watchman view from the bridge in Zion and I have wanted to get the shot for my own but the multiple times I have tried, something came up... This time, I made the effort to make sure it happened and after exploring during the day, I napped for two hours and then came down here and was surprised to have the place to myself on that Saturday Night. I took 20 images for the sky, and 6 images for the foreground. --- Someone parked across the bridge and walked up in the middle of the night without saying a word. I spotted them approaching and yelled out loudly, but I think that he should have announced himself. I was definitely on the defense in this situation being that I was by myself and think that this guy, who ended up being a photographer, should have said hello instead of sneaking up on me. --- 20 sky images stacked in SLS for NR ISO 10000 F2.8 10 seconds - 6 images for the foreground stacked in SLS for NR ISO 10000 F2.8 75 seconds - @TokinaUSA 16-28 at 28mm @SlikUSA 634-CF @CanonUSA 6DMK1 Processed in LR & PS —- #tracylee #tracyleephotos #tracyleephotography #slikusa #canonusa #tokinausa #canonbringit #teamcanon #teamtokina #teamslik #shootslik #sliktripods #longexposure_shots #longexposure #longexpohunter #longexpo #amazing_longexpo #amazingearth #natgeo #itsamazingoutthere #milkyway

I think it’s time to…

I think it’s time to make a trip back here... I definitely haven’t explored here as much as I want to! #TBT #throwbackthursday - Repost @tracyleephotos ・・・ I like to call this place "Poor Man's White Pocket" because it's much easier to drive to, although it's quite a bit more difficult to hike to.. I took off here on Monday Night with my friend @big_kansas.. We had every intention of being there before sunset but we got delayed for various reasons and got there at dusk... --- I had to move around quickly to try and choose a star trail comp and with Dan's assistance, came up with this one. I lit the rock formation from below and to the left so it would bounce on to the rocks in the back. I lit the foreground by putting a LumeCube.com/160.html (TRACYLEE for FREE US Shipping at that URL) off to the left behind my camera and bounced it off rocks there to throw a shadow on the ones in front of me. I shot 10 images to stack in Starry Landscape Stacker for the foreground and then turned off my lights to conserve them. --- I was getting ready to set up my 2nd camera for Milky Way when I realized that I had no memory card in it. I tore apart my camera bag to find another one with no success.. So this star trail is 220 images because I wanted to shoot some MW too... --- As we were hiking out that night, Dan spotted 3 sets of eyes off in the dark peering at us. I was only able to spot 2 of them but it was eerie that they were so close and not scared away by us. We carefully hiked through the brush on the way out, watching our backs the entire time... _____ Foreground ISO 1600 F2.8 30 seconds Sky ISO 1000 F2.8 30 seconds 10 images stacked in SLS for NR Processed in LR & PS @TokinaUSA 11-20 2.8 @SlikUSA 634-CFL @CanonUSA 70d @TetherTools Case Relay _____ #longexposure_shots #nightshooterz #nightshooters #longexposure #longexpohunter #longexpo #amazing_longexpo #amazingearth #natgeo #itsamazingoutthere #nightphotography #desertstarscapes #tracylee #tracyleephotos #slikusa #canonusa #tokinausa #canonbringit #teamcanon #teamtokina #teamslik #shootslik #sliktripods #lumecube #capture4cubes #litbylume #utah

I know I just recently…

I know I just recently posted this.. but 2 months ago when I took it, the world was a very different place. Can we please go back? #TBT #throwbackthursday - What’s the farthest you’ve gone for a photo, spontaneously on a whim?? Did it pay off? - On Wed morning, I was in S. Iceland getting up to head to some tours that I had booked. I had a location that I wanted to visit& knew that if I didn’t go that day, I might not get there at all on the trip. When I got to the end of the hotel driveway, I could turn left for the tours I paid for, or right for the once in a lifetime spot. - The weather looked to be ok, but I hadn’t even researched if Aurora was forecast in the area that night; I just felt an instinct to go there. So I turned right & spent the next few hours of 8 wondering if I had made the wrong decision &if I should turn back. The farther I drove, the more clear the skies became & I kept on my route. I made some stops for photos, I scanned the radio for music, & navigated some of the most treacherous roads I had ever seen in my life to get there by about 3:30pm. - I shot some photos, the sunset, left my tripod &headed to the hotel in town to warm up & grab a bite to eat. - The owner of the hotel was so kind &went out of his way to cook me a hot meal that wasn’t pizza or burgers. It was shaping up to be a good night for the aurora; I planned on waiting in the car all night if I had to but after taking a test shot, I knew that it had already started. - I was like a kid in a candy store; I could slightly see the colors of green with my eyes, whereas my camera picked them up oh so brightly. I didn’t know until yesterday that it got down to about 0ºF but made sense as I was pacing back&forth to keep warm. I let my camera keep shooting while i checked into the hotel & warmed up a bit before shooting 3 more comps. - 20 images stacked in SLS for foreground 4 blended for sky ISO 1000 (It was underexposed- go higher!) f2.8 5 seconds - Accidentally had my LCD too bright so my images were under exposed. Thankful for good dynamic range! - @tokinausa 11-20 2.8 @ 16mm @slikusa 734cf @canonusa 5dMK4 @tenbabags axis 32L

Do you try to find…

Do you try to find new comps or always the tried and true? - I’m always in search of new comps and this trip to the ‘Hills was the perfect opportunity to look for ones off the beaten path.. I took off to on an adventure of epic proportions and shot all kinds of fun stuff over 4-5 days.. it was an exhausting trip but I really think I got some cool stuff! #TBT #ThrowbackThursday —- We were exploring areas of Alabama Hills we had never shot in before and we went in different directions... most arches in the area face east to west but this was North to South so it was perfect for this comp.. I came back here at 3am and I lit the entire foreground with a Lume Cube Panel from the right with a warm setting at about 30% bounced off the neighboring rocks. Then I put a warm diffused @LumeCube (use code TRACYLEE for 10% off and free shipping) at 2% inside the arch which was not a hard climb at all but a little bit of effort to get to... we were a bit of a distance back from the arch too so I shot a focus stack/stacked image (25 sky, 20 foreground) at 35mm on the @TokinaUSA 24-70mm. The clouds were out and caused some serious bloating of the Stars!! —- This was the 1st comp of the night and we did about 4-5 more after lol... —- Sky - 25 stacked ISO 10000 F2.8 8 seconds - Foreground- 20 stacked ISO 3200 F2.8 30 seconds —- Processed in LR & PS @tokinausa 24-70 @ 35mm @slikusa 734-CF @canonusa 5DMK4 - #tracylee #tracyleephotos #slikusa #canonusa #tokinausa #canonbringit #teamcanon #sliktripods #mycanonstory #longexposure_shots #nightimages #nightpics #milkywaygalaxy #astrophotography  #astro_photography_ #astro_photography #longexposure #longexpohunter #nationalparkgeek #findyourpark #yourshotphotographer #naturephotography #landscapephotography  #allaboutadventures #litbyluxli #litbylume #lumecube #capture4cubes

#FBF #FlashbackFriday- I miss shooting…

#FBF #FlashbackFriday- I miss shooting star trails and I definitely need to find my way back to the California coast soon! —— Repost @tracyleephotos ・・・ This is at Bowling Ball Beach last weekend but this time facing North towards Polaris. I get a lot out of my nights attempting to do MW shots, Timelapse and Star Trails. Now I wasn't completely happy with how this was looking so I ended up playing around with the masking of this image to show the original stars too. This is 200 images, lit from the side by a single Lume Cube. --- ISO 2500 F2.8 20 seconds Processed in LR & PS Lit by lumecube.com/160.html --- #tracylee #tracyleephotos #tracyleephotography #slikusa #canonusa #tokinausa #canonbringit #teamcanon #teamtokina #teamslik #shootslik #sliktripods #longexposure_shots #longexposure #longexpohunter #longexpo #amazing_longexpo #amazingearth #natgeo #itsamazingoutthere #litbylume #capture4cubes #lumecube #darkskyweek #internationaldarkskyweek

Just at home under the…

Just at home under the Q... but I wouldn’t mind being here under the stars #justsaying - #TBT #ThrowbackThursday — This adventure starts over a decade ago here in Las Vegas... I made friends w/ @MichaelPernula as he bartended at one of my favorite clubs in Vegas. We would see each other around, and hung out a time or two even; we had since lost contact. Fast forward to recent times. We reconnected & on a whim, took off to Escalante w/ no notice. I planned out a few spots to explore & decided I wanted to shoot this cottonwood composition I had seen from other photographers although try as I might, couldn't find this exact tree with the Milky Way over it. --- Now, this exact tree; that's another story in itself. We arrived to the area of Escalante that we knew it was in, but it was already dusk & getting darker by the minute & I had never been there before! We didn't realize that the rock formation it was on top of extended for at least a couple miles when we started exploring potholes, some over 50ft deep! I was obsessed because I knew this one had the right depth, as well as was the right composition (I love the leading lines in the photos @dustinlefevre has taken here!) to line up with the Milky Way. I pored over the details of Dustin's photos vs Google Maps & found what I thought must be the tree a good distance from where we started. In the dark with potholes everywhere, we finally found it!! --- Michael was gracious enough to go place my lumecube.com (Use TRACYLEE10 for free US Shipping at this link!!) in the pothole facing the wall directly in front of me.. He slid into the hole, but when it was time to climb out, his shoes were covered in sand & got no purchase on the walls. He was stuck!! I kept him in there a few moments longer as I sent up my camera's focus, and tested it's settings then ran over with my 2nd @SlikUSA tripod extended fully and used it to give him a hand up. We actually ended up doing this dance 2 more times to adjust the light and then retrieve it at the end of the night. --- ISO 6400 F2.8 15 seconds 10 images stacked in SLS Processed in LR & PS @tokinausa 16-28 @slikusa 634-CF
