Hands down one of the harder hikes I have done, but happy to have crossed this off my bucket list! Rainbow Mountain in Peru is everything you’ve heard and more.. you start the hike at 14k ft and in 3 miles hike to 17k… the air is so thin, and the hike is easy going but so steep, with tons of people along it.. we had an amazing tour group, Valencia Travel who set up the super VIP experience for us which we totally weren’t expecting. Because the breakfast they cooked for us at basecamp with it’s amazing views of the alpacas and local village, we were delayed getting on trail. That meant we were late getting to the top (which I was ok with) because it meant that we would have less people up top.. we ended up at the very top and had it to ourselves for quite some time in the amazing and beautiful weather you see here in the photo.. it was QUITE windy and cold, but such an incredible experience and a must see.. we did feel the effects of elevation by the time we got down to base camp in spite of all the efforts we made to combat it… But today I woke up fully rested and ready to attack a new adventure!!
