Photo Caption: I always have said I wanted to see a flash flood first hand and I guess now that I think of it, I have in the past too but this past week I saw 2 in 3 days in 2 different states. Both days I got to see the arrival of the water as it filled the wash. I admit to a perverse desire to see a RAGING flash flood some day, from a safe distance though.
This was taken at the wash just outside of the Buckskin Gulch Trailhead after the ranger told us, ‘Oh it’s only a 20% chance of rain, you’ll be fine’ all the while we’re looking at the storm and lighting sitting over the House Rock Valley Rd area, right where the infamous Buckskin Gulch, The Wave, and White Pocket all sit. @_blaino @baybeepanda123 and I decided to head down the road to check out the imminent flooding of the washes and caught the water just as it started down into BG.
For those of you who don’t know, being in a slot canyon during weather like this is extremely dangerous and other people from Hiking Vegas were just at the mouth of Buckskin Gulch trailhead at the time I took this photo. Fortunately they hadn’t entered and were still in an area they could easily climb out of; Buckskin is considered one of the worlds longest slot canyons with only one way to climb out over the entire 13 miles.
