Kayaking Willow Beach
I headed out Kayaking Willow Beach last week with a crew i’ve known for a long time in Las Vegas Nightlife.. We all met up at Desert Adventures in Boulder City and signed waivers at their shop before getting on the road into AZ to Willow Beach for the drop in.
I got in a kayak with my buddy Sean Charsley so that I could both take photos and have help with paddling because i’ve been having issues with my wrist. Almost everyone else took individual kayaks except Derrick and Micah who did a double one like us. The gorgeous day was warm without being sweltering; just warm enough to offset the frigid temperatures of the water.
We set off about 12:30 or so paddling upstream towards the dam and about 2 miles stopped on a small beach to regroup as we had become quite spread out by that time.
After the short break, we came up came to Emerald Cave. The cave could have probably fit about 6 or even possibly more kayaks comfortably but only 4 of us paddled into it.
We hit the narrowest part of the river and a couple of the guys climbed high up on an old tower in the middle of it to dive off of. We continued upstream for a ways and then stopped at another beach we saw along the side for a snack break before deciding this was our stopping point.
The trip back was a little difficult because although it was downstream, the wind had kicked up and was blowing straight at us. Sean and I were very in sync paddling together by this point and we ended up with quite a lead on everyone else all the way back to Willow Beach? We arrived at least an hour prior to pickup time at 430 so we all went to the marina to grab food and beers and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Thank you to Derrick and Sean for including me in the group, and thank you to Desert Adventures for the hospitality!
