well, it’s tedious but you can fix it by going through your friends list and delete the reactivated dead accounts one by one. How do you recognize a dead account? It has no profile picture, and no mutual friends. IF you have mutual friends, its a live account!
Click on the friend’s name on your list and a little window will pop up telling you that this is a deactivated account, would you like to unfriend it. Click the unfriend link.
It will then ask if you are sure you want to remove it, click “remove from friends”
The key is when the window pops up after you’ve deleted the non existent friend, DO NOT HIT OK! Leave that window floating so you can scroll down till you get to the next one instead and click on it. This way you don’t have to start at the very top of the 5000+ friends you have on your list, you continue from the same spot.
Note, every once in a while there’s going to be an acct that looks like a deactivated account but it’s just one that someone never put a photo on or added any friends to. That sucks cause then you have to start all over again from the top of your friends list instead of right where you left off. I open another FB window to check every acct before I click on it which is even MORE tedious but it works..
